Designed by David Michael Miller, this Sonora Desert home in California is a modern interpretation of an old French farm. The project amazingly combines old and new building materials and furniture items – such fusion gives this villa uniqueness and sophistication. On the one hand, an old blast furnace is located in the kitchen, on the other, a swimming pool decorates the backyard. The traditional farmhouse features can be traced in design: beamed ceilings, plain plastered walls and tiled floors. The designer reflected the connection with the past in old kitchen utensils: cast-iron frying pans, clay dishes, and in such interior details as a forged lattice, a copper lampshade and a worn leather chair. At the same time, the bathroom turned out to be ultramodern: a luxurious bathtub and stylish metal fittings. A magnificent mix of the past and present.
